The Oilers past the Ducks
Raffi Torres scored 2 goals to rally the Edmonton Oilers to a 4/2 victory over Anaheim, Jussi Markkanen made 31 saves in the win spoiling the Ducks home opener at Arrowhead Pond. Radek Dvorak added a goal & Chris Pronger chipped in 2 assists, his 1rst 2 pts as an Oiler, for Edmonton, which has won its 1rst 3 games to open the season.
The Ducks took a 1/0 lead on Selanne's 1rst period goal at the 6:36 mark. Selanne received a pass from Andy McDonald at the blue line & fired a shot that deflected off a skate & into the net. Corey Perry's 1rst career goal staked Anaheim to a 2/0 lead it would not hold. Markkanen stopped Jason Marshall's shot from the point & tried to steer the puck away. However, the puck went right to Perry, who flipped the puck into the open net.
After going down 2/0, Edmonton would rally back to score 4 straight goals, the 1rst 3 coming on a power play, in route to the win. The Oilers would cut their deficit down to 1 just 1:13 into the 2nd period on Torres' power play goal. Edmonton would then tie it on the power play at the 3:22 mark after Marty Reasoner found the back of the net with a rebounding goal. The Oilers completed the comeback on their 3rd power play goal when Dvorak put a rebound shot into the top left corner at the 8:20 mark in the 3rd period. Edmonton finished 3 of 8 with the man advantage while Anaheim failed to connect on 7 tries. Torres added an empty net goal with 33 seconds remaining to seal the game. |
