Angels vs White Sox Preview
GAME: Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox.
SERIES: AL Championship Series; Game 1.
TIME: Tuesday, 8:20 p.m. EDT.
The travel weary Los Angeles Angels are happy to be in Chicago for Game 1 of the AL championship series. Jose Contreras, one of the hottest pitcher in baseball has been waiting for them & will try to get the championship starved White Sox off to a good start as they host the Los Angeles Angels in the opener of the best of 7 series.
Los Angeles went to Game 5 with the New York Yankees before pulling out a 5/3 win, while the White Sox needed just 3 games to defeat the World Series champion Boston Red Sox. The White Sox haven't done that since 1917, which was also the last year they had won a MLB postseason series before knocking off the Red Sox (Chicago slugged 7 homers, including 2 apiece from A.J. Pierzynski & Paul Konerko).
Trailing 2/0 in the 2nd inning, the Angels got a homer from Garret Anderson, sparking a 3 run outburst & putting Los Angeles ahead to stay. Rookie Ervin Santana had to relieve injured starter Bartolo Colon (shoulder/back) in the 2nd inning & went on to allow 3 runs & 5 hits over 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. The Angels were swept out of last year's ALDS by Boston. They are trying to reach the World Series for the 1rst time since 2002, when they won their 1rst & only title by beating the San Francisco Giants in 7 games. Game 2 is Wednesday night in Chicago.
